ISO/IEC 17025 Overview
"ISO/IEC
17025 is an international standard that assesses the technical competency of
laboratories. ISO/IEC 17025 covers every aspect of laboratory management,
ranging from sample preparation to analytical testing proficiency to record
keeping and reports. The standard focuses on several elements including, but not
limited to the laboratories quality system, document control, corrective and
preventive action, accommodation and environmental conditions, equipment,
measurement uncertainty, evidence of traceability, sampling, and much more.
Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 helps laboratories achieve a competitive
advantage by reducing costs, establish credibility, improve efficiency, and
enhance profitability. By achieving accreditation your laboratory has taken a
step forward by informing the world that your test and calibration results are
technically competent. More importantly, accreditation opens the doors to global
markets as it removes the need for retesting products in different countries.
ISO/IEC 17025 is a process not an end in itself. Incorporating ISO 17025 will
continually challenge a laboratory's system to continuously improve quality and
the technical competency of its labs and personnel
ISO/IEC 17025 gives organizations, their suppliers, and others credibility by
'assuring' appropriate validation of methods and 'assessing' technical
competency.
Relying on a third party to accredit your laboratory to ISO/IEC 17025 allows you
to shift your resources and energy to concentrate on your core competencies."
